Snare Drums In A Field

Snare Drums... is a site specific piece originally conceived for and performed in a field on the Dartington estate. The piece uses the distances in the space to dictate the rhythm. Taking into account the speed of sound through air, it involves four drummers spread out in a straight line from the audience. Using brightly coloured flags, a conductor provides repeated visual cues for the drummers to strike their drums simultaneously. Due to the distance, the sound of each drum arrives at the audience's ears at different times.
