Isolation

In November and October 2009 I spent 40 days in complete social, physical and communicative isolation. The intention was to remove all distraction and, by means of daily music uploads to a blog (I didn't review the feedback until after the 40 days), encourage prolific production of music. By adhering to my strict rules I managed to produce four hours in total of finished recorded music.

The output was polarised in character. Half the work was pure pop: electronic beats and catchy chorus hooks. The other half was experimental: generative compositional algorithms and electro-acoustic noises. Due to the rules, each piece was written and recorded in less than eight hours. Everything is as it was recorded in isolation, no re-mixing or re-mastering has been done since.

The entirety of the work is available on the blog. A selection of tracks can be heard on soundcloud.
